POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP

The Asian MetaCentre for Population and Sustainable Development Analysis, Asia Research Institute (ARI), National University of Singapore (NUS) invites applicants for the above, to be based at the Asian MetaCentre headquarters in ARI, Singapore.


THE ASIAN METACENTRE

The MetaCentre was established in February 2000 as a consortium of population studies centres in Asia, with its headquarters at the Asia Research Institute, NUS. It is the result of a successful application under the Wellcome Trust’s “Major Awards for Centres of Excellence in Asia”. The main collaborative centres include:

• National Centre for Epidemiology and Population Health (NCEPH), Australian National University, Australia
(Principal Collaborator: Professor Anthony McMichael)

The Postdoctoral Fellow will work with staff in the Asian MetaCentre and other collaborating centres on research in the area of migration and health in East and Southeast Asia. AREA OF EXPERTISE

The applicant should hold a PhD degree in Social/Health Psychology, Health Geography, Medical Demography, Medical Sociology, Epidemiology or a related discipline.

He or she should have research experience in the area of migration and health in East and Southeast Asia, as well as expertise in conducting surveys, and managing and analyzing large data sets. A familiarity with standard measures of self-assessed health (eg. measures of physical functioning and depression) in the context of Asia, and fluency in Mandarin (Chinese), or other Southeast Asian languages will be an asset.


TERMS AND CONDITIONS

The terms and conditions for the Fellowship are as follows:

1. Contract tenable for one year to be awarded on a competitive basis to deserving candidates.
2. An all inclusive and fixed salary of SGD 3,500 per month, which would be subject to tax.
3. For foreigners outside of Singapore, a one-time settling-in allowance/travel subsidy of up to SGD 2,000 on a reimbursement basis upon acceptance for the fellowship.
4. Holiday leave of 28 days per calendar year.

In addition, the Postdoctoral Fellow will be eligible to apply for conference funding.

The Postdoctoral Fellow will be expected to:
• Participate in collaborative research at the Asian MetaCentre.
• Participate in organizing workshops and conferences under the auspices of the Asian MetaCentre.
• Develop and coordinate the Asian MetaCentre Research Paper Series on related topics.
• Give first right of refusal for at least one publication to the Asian MetaCentre.
• Pursue independent research on related topics.

• At least one sample of their published work (non-returnable)
• A proposal for research you wish to carry out if awarded the Fellowship

In addition, please arrange for at least 2 referees, one of whom should be the PhD supervisor, to submit a confidential report on their academic standing and research directly to the Asian MetaCentre.
